“Be a man,” I told myself.
It all started with hosting virtual meetings with Kelechukwu Okere for the CSC Tech Innovators Club, where we both serve as Directors of ICT, and then being a host for a physical event for the first time. Since then, the trajectory has only kept moving upward. During our NACOS Week, on the 2nd of March 2026, the NACOS Week Tech Day was the first event in the lineup. I was assigned the responsibility of hosting the Tech Day as Director of ICT. I was expected to ensure that the event was a success. Honestly, I didn’t know what to do or even where to begin that day. I was already exhausted after a series of tests and defenses. I felt skeptical about doing anything at all. I had explored every possible option and scenario in my head, yet I couldn't see a way out for me.
At some point, I realized it wasn’t just exhaustion, it was doubt. I was afraid I wouldn’t do well if I stepped up there. One thing kept ringing in my head at this moment “Remember you said this is the year you take over stages.” It felt like my own words had come back to challenge me, but even that wasn’t enough to push me forward. I had to speak to our Vice President Chinaemerem Okolie and Kelechukwu Okere telling them I couldn’t do it. But their responses, and the reactions of other executives, said everything. I realized at a glance that this team had complete trust in me. Their words showed no iota of doubt. That was the only assurance I needed. “Be a man,” I told myself. I stepped up, and just like that, you could call it my official first experience speaking publicly. Before then, I had only spoken in closed spaces and small circles, never in a large number like this. This isn’t just a random post. I want you, the reader, to understand the importance of community, and what it truly means to be part of a team. Also remember, so many people believe in you. I believe in you too.
