Some things are meant to challenge us, especially when they test whether we will truly remain committed to the decisions we make.
One of the things that challenged me this year was the Aspire Leaders Programme, which ran from April 24th to July 1st, 2026.
The programme made me question whether my commitment to growth was truly as strong as I had said it was.
At the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself that every moment of 2026 would be a sprint towards self-development and a journey of impact.
Aspire Leaders Programme became one of those moments that put that promise to the test.
An Experience That Challenged Me
This has been the longest virtual programme I have participated in, but there is something about the Aspire Leaders Programme that goes beyond the usual standards.
The structure of the programme, the practical leadership courses, and the hands-on projects are things I have rarely encountered in a virtual programme.
More importantly, the content aligned deeply with my personal goals, and I could easily connect what I was learning to the realities of my immediate community.
Leadership Meets Service
Interestingly, the period from April to July also marked another important decision in my journey.
I decided to join Junior Chamber International (JCI).
Part of the motivation behind that decision came from my experience with the Aspire Leaders Programme.
As I went through the leadership courses at Aspire and simultaneously attended JCI's Intending Member classes, I noticed how both experiences reinforced many of the same principles I was learning.
Leadership.
Service.
Community development.
Responsibility.
Impact.
It was a powerful experience to learn something in one space and then see those same principles being applied in another.
Becoming a Better Leader
The Aspire Leaders Programme has contributed greatly to the person I am becoming.
It has challenged me to become:
- A better leader
- A better citizen
- A more intentional contributor to my community
It has also pushed me to think more deeply about environmental responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals, and how I can contribute, in my own little way, to building a better society for everyone.
Leadership Is More Than a Title
One thing I have come to understand is that being a leader and understanding leadership are two different things.
You do not need a title to be a leader.
Leadership is visible in our actions, in how we serve others, in how we respond to challenges, and in the impact we create around us.
And sometimes, the programmes, communities, and experiences we encounter are there to remind us of the promises we made to ourselves.
Aspire Leaders Programme was one of those reminders for me.
The sprint continues.
The journey of impact continues.
